Parent/school partnership

See also: PTA Parents Teachers association

We believe in a genuine partnership between parents and the school. It is an important aspect of our policy that parents should be involved in the development of the school and its curriculum.

Parents evenings are arranged in the Autumn, Spring and Summer terms each year when parents can discuss the progress of the child(ren) with class teachers. However, teachers are always happy to talk to parents about their children at other times during the year. Parents are invited to talk to teachers either before or after the school day, although it may not be appropriate if the matter is of a sensitive or confidential nature. Please also be aware that staff are busy setting up lesson and activities and may have to arrange another time to meet. The headteacher is also available at these times or by appointment at other times.

Information and feedback to parents is also provided through the Annual Report to Parents (link to pdf of current Annual Report), reading record books, newsletters and this web site.

Many aspects of this parent/school partnership are now well-established in the day to day life of our school. Parents make a real contribution by:

  • helping on a regular or occasional basis in classes, listening to readers, supporting group work, assisting with outings and PE lessons. This help benefits the children directly and is always greatly appreciated;
  • providing artefacts and information to support topic work and coming into the school to talk to the children about their particular area of knowledge or experience. This greatly enriches the educational experiences of the children;
  • supporting out of school activities;
  • taking part in such initiatives as ‘Learning Together’, which involves parents of children in Reception;
  • providing feedback and comments through the suggestion box and questionnaires;
  • supporting our parent/teacher group, FOSTPS.

Parental involvement at all these levels is greatly appreciated by the school and it is hoped that all parents feel that they are given every opportunity to be active partners in the education of their children.

From November 2nd, child benefit will no longer be counted as an income in the calculation for Housing Benefit & Council Tax Benefit purposes. (Housing Benefit provides help with people's rent, Council Tax Benefit is help with the Council Tax bill, whether in rented or owned
property).

These changes are part of the Governments efforts to boost the incomes of lowest paid families, and they estimate that as many as 900 additional households across the two Council areas will qualify for help from November with either their rent and/or their Council Tax
because of these changes.
