Visits and Visitors

Hooke Court Residential

For three days and two nights in October, Year 5 and Year 4 went away on a residential visit to Hooke Court in Dorset.  It was a fantastic experience for everyone and Hooke Court House is in a beautiful setting within its own grounds.  The focus of the trip was to learn even more about our Tudor topic which we have been studying this term.

There were so many activities to try, including workshops on trade and travel; baking Tudor biscuits; making candles; playing popular Tudor games; boat building; a murder mystery game; a Tudor banquet; making Tudor pockets; sewing; writing with quills; and a detective game to learn all about Hooke Court.

There was also tasty food, sleepy nights in dormitories and even a tuck shop.  Everyone had a great time and even the weather was good!

Shakespeare Theatre Trip

On Monday 2nd November, Years 5 and 6 went to Princess Theatre in Torquay to watch a brilliant performance of Macbeth by a production company called ‘Shakespeare4kidz’.  It was linked to literacy work about Shakespeare as well as Year 5’s Tudor topic.  Thanks to the generosity of the PTA who funded the coach travel to Torquay, families only had to pay for the theatre tickets.  Everyone enjoyed the performance and returned to school with a fresh enthusiasm to learn more about Shakespeare.

Trip to London

At the end of October, children in year 5 and 6 took advantage of the exciting opportunity to spend two days in London.

We travelled there and back by coach and spent a comfortable night in a Youth Hostal in Holland Park. It was a busy and action packed couple of days.

On Thursday, we visited Shakespeare's Globe Theatre on the south bank of the River Thames before walking across the Millennium Bridge to see some famous sites including St.Pauls Cathedral.

On Friday, we went on the London Eye and then visited the Bank of England. For many of us, it was the first time we had visited our capital city. We all loved it, but were ready for the half-term holiday when we returned home!

On Thursday 15th and Friday 16th May, South Tawton Primary School was visited by an Egyptian "Prince" and "Princess" from the Royal Albert Museum in Exeter. They led workshops for children from Year 3 and Year 4.

As you can see from the photographs all the children enjoyed the activities which included mummifying one of their classmates!!

Thank you to all the parents who came in to help- I think they enjoyed the activities too!
